Learn to Control Robots with Android and Python

Learn to Control Robots with Android and Python Dec. 13th, 2019

In this 3-hour workshop participants will learn how to build and control an autonomous robot manipulator with 4 degrees of freedom from scratch, no prior knowledge required. We will start with an introduction to basic robotics and specifically to kinematics. Kinematics is a branch of classical mechanics that describes the motion of points, bodies (objects), and systems of bodies. These concepts are used in the movement of robotic manipulation systems. We will then build our own robot manipulator using an open laser cut wood design, a PSLab (Pocket Science Lab). At first the participants will put the robot pieces together and equip them with proper actuators (servo motors) to add movement and gripping capabilities of the robot. We will then connect the robot to an Android phone with the PSLab app to understand how to control the robot. After that we will use a laptop with our own Python script. Python is a powerful programming language that is suitable for beginners. A small Python script will be developed with guidance by the trainers. Participants will learn noe how to initially program and manipulate things with this robot using the Pocket Science Lab board and a laptop. In the end we will discuss development possibilities and further use cases using the setup with sensors like Temperature sensor, CO2 sensor, water sensors etc. Extra steps for further exploration will be given. So participants can continue their learning journey after the workshop is done. Address of Venue: Eunos Road 8, Lifelong Learning Institute, Singapore / Room: Training Room 1-1
