Open Robotics
About Us
We create open software and hardware platforms for robotics. We use those platforms to solve important problems and help others to do the same.
Projects
Working with our global community, we offer two open platforms: ROS
and Gazebo. Program your robots with ROS and simulate them with Gazebo.
These tools are widely deployed in production environments around the
world. They are also relied upon by hundreds of thousands of robotics
researchers, educators, students, and hobbyists.
ROS (Robot Operating System) is a software development kit that helps you build robot applications.
From drivers to state-of-the-art algorithms, and with powerful developer
tools, ROS has what you need for your next robotics project. And it's
all open source: https://www.ros.org
Gazebo accurately and efficiently simulates robots for your application, whether it's warehouse logistics, autonomous driving, or space exploration. You get a robust physics engine, high-quality graphics, and programmatic interfaces, including integration with ROS. And it's all open source: http://gazebosim.org
Organization & Mission
Open Source Robotics Foundation, Inc. (OSRF) was established
in 2012. OSRF is incorporated in California as a Nonprofit Public
Benefit Corporation and is recognized in the USA as a tax-exempt public
charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In 2016
OSRF created
a subsidiary, Open Source Robotics Corporation (OSRC), to facilitate
collaboration with the robotics industry. OSRC is incorporated in
California as a C Corporation. In 2018 OSRC created
a further subsidiary, Open Source Robotics Corporation Singapore Pte
Ltd (OSRC-SG), to allow greater engagement in the Asia Pacific region.
OSRC-SG is incorporated in Singapore as a Private Limited Company.
Together, these companies form Open Robotics, where we remain dedicated to OSRF's original mission to "support the development, distribution, and adoption of open source software for use in robotics research, education, and product development."
We aim to be the hub of the global robotics community. To that end,
we create open software and hardware platforms for robotics, and we use
those platforms to solve important problems and help others to do the
same.
