Wikimania 2026

Wikimania 2026 – Call for Speakers

Wikimania 2026 invited community members, Wikimedia affiliates, volunteers, researchers and partners to submit session proposals and help shape the conference programme. The organizers emphasized that proposals should contribute to knowledge sharing across the Wikimedia movement rather than simply being traditional conference presentations.

Main topics / tracks

The 2026 programme included 9 thematic tracks:

  • Education & Advocacy – bringing Wikimedia and free knowledge to broader audiences
  • GLAM & Partnerships – collaboration with cultural, heritage and other institutions
  • Technology – MediaWiki, infrastructure, extensions, tools, UX/UI, etc.
  • Artificial Intelligence – AI, community impact, reliability and new tools
  • Community – diversity, inclusion, engagement and community health
  • Research – research related to Wikimedia communities
  • Governance & Strategy
  • Wild Ideas – unexpected or unconventional ideas
  • New Generations – youth and newcomers to the movement

Session formats

Instead of focusing heavily on traditional lectures, Wikimania 2026 encouraged practical and interactive sessions. Available formats included:

  • Workshops
  • Panels
  • Lightning Talks
  • Posters
  • Meetups & Lunches
  • Pre-conferences
